Since its introduction in January 2003,
the Master of Science in Systems Engineering
(MSSE) program at Florida Tech has grown
at a rapid pace. At the present time courses
are taught
in two rotations on-site at Northrop Grumman
Corporation with 57 students. Two additional
rotations are being conducted for 56 employees
of Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Fla.,
as well as 13 students in the new distance
learning program for Harris employees in
Rochester, N.Y. To date, all four rotations
have maintained 100% retention since the
start of the program.
This program is particularly
attractive to working professionals because
of a flexible
course curriculum, compatible course
contents, and evening classes. Experienced
faculty
with many years of Department of Defense
and industry experience complement the
high demand. For more information, contact
the Department of Engineering Systems’ office
coordinator, Sara Parent at
(321) 674-7132 or sparent@fit.edu.

The Florida Tech Student Ambassadors offer
a special opportunity to tell your students
you are thinking about them. Our Miles
of Smiles program shortens the distance
between college and home by allowing
you to select different types of surprises,
like birthday cakes and balloons or seasonal
gifts. This year, we offer new packages,
including a St. Patrick’s Day “Lucky
Charm” and a “Stress-Relief
Kit.”
We create our surprises according
to your instructions and personally
deliver them
to your student by an ambassador on your
day of choice. During Spring Break and
Finals Week, unfortunately, no deliveries
can be made. Our most popular gift is
our birthday surprise cake, decoration
and
personalization with a balloon bouquet.
Our cakes are baked fresh by a Publix
supermarket. Students (and their friends)
love receiving
this sweet treat.
For more information
on the
Miles of Smiles program or to
receive a brochure, send e-mail to
milesofsmiles@fit.edu, or call

Please note: No orders
can be submitted through our Web site.
Please send an
e-mail message or call in your order.
My favorite Brevard Engineering College
memory is when I learned that the college
would start day classes in spring 1961
and was looking for someone to teach freshman
chemistry. I made an appointment to see
Dean Ray Work about this. After we chatted
a few minutes, he asked, “What’s
the formula for laughing gas?” I
told him and he said, “You’re
hired.” When I looked quizzically
at him, he added, “That’s all
the chemistry I know. I’m sorry,
but I can’t ask you anything else.” That
semester I had three students in my class.
When I received my master’s degree
in spring 1964, one of the students graduated
with a bachelor’s
degree.
